Friday Finds - 05.20.16

Some things I ran across in the past week that were interesting, helpful or maybe even life-changing to me. If any of it helps you...all the better.

How to Prevent Lens Flare - Something that I run into quite often with my real estate photography, so I found this article useful. Made me realize that I need to go hunt for my lens hood. LOL

Best Fitness Trackers 2016 - I've gotten to the point that I wear my Fitbit all the time; however, I've gotten to where I HATE the app that it syncs to as well as the crappy battery life. So, I am considering a new device. This article covers a lot of ground in the wearable device world.

Ohio Man logs a Million Miles Transporting Rescue Dogs to New Homes - This article makes my heart smile. I am currently reading a book (Rescue Road) about this awesome man and his business Rescue Road Trips. Such an amazing human being.

Heart-wrenching Documentary About Michael Vick's Rescued Fighting Dogs Now on Netflix - I will definitely be watching this...It will take me forever to get through, because I will probably cry a lot.

The Daytripper Episodes - A really cool show about different Texas destinations and their history.

I leave you with one of my favorite images from the week. Have a wonderful weekend!

Some things I ran across in the past week that was interesting, helpful or maybe even life-changing to me. If any of it helps you...all the better.

Squarespace Note - I heard about this app on a podcast and have been using it like crazy. I was so excited about it, I even did a separate blog post about it. It basically takes a note (typed or dictated) and emails it to you, so you can review it at a later time. It is a very simple, clean interface. Highly recommended.

5 Minute Journal - I first heard of this journal app/tool from a Tim Ferriss podcast. I downloaded the app...which is a little pricey at $4.99 a few days ago and it has really helped me focus my daily intentions. There are two major sections you fill out each day.

  1. Morning: List three things you are grateful for followed by three things that will make this day great. There is also a place to enter your daily affirmation.
  2. Evening: List three amazing things that happened during the day followed by what would have made the day better.

I do not know if it is the structure of it all that I really like or what. People close to me would probably say that is exactly why I like it.

Here are a couple of articles about the 5 Minute Journal --

When people ask me "ooooh, what breed is that dog?" I now say "why it's a shelter dog! They are beautiful and awesome!" One of my volunteer friends found a wonderful article titled: Shelter Removes Breed Labels After Studies Shows They Unfairly Affect Dog Adoptions

My hope is that one day all shelters do this because it is unfair to all the wonderful dogs that reside there.

App: Squarespace Note

I've started using an app called Squarespace Note and it does exactly what I want it to do. I was looking for something that I could just type or dictate a quick note and send it to my email, so I can review later. That is all the app does...simplicity at it's best.

After setting your target email address...simply, type or dictate something you want to remember and swipe upward. Your note/reminder will be sent  to your email address. The app then resets and is ready for your next note. It does not save previous notes...clean slate every time. A photo can also be sent with the note...so if you are looking through a magazine and see something, you can send a snap of it at the same time.

I am really getting a lot of use out of this app and it has become important enough to be moved to my main app screen for easy access.
