Photo Outing | Mary Allen Seminary

Mary Allen Seminary Historical Marker

Last Saturday, a friend and I drove to Crockett, TX to photograph the abandoned Mary Allen Seminary. It was a rainy start to the day. We left Houston around noon and arrived in Crockett around 3:00...just as the skies started clearing. Perfect timing.

From Wikipedia:

Mary Allen Seminary was the first black women's college in the state of Texas. Initially a parochial school founded and run by white Presbyterians, it was restructured in 1924 and became an accredited junior college with an all-black faculty and black administrator in 1933. The school was closed in 1943, reopened the following year, and operated until 1972.

Below are some of the photos I came away with as well as links to the full galleries.

My 2012 Retrospective

2012 was a very good year for me. Below are some of the things that happened in my life during the year.

January

At the most welcomed urging of a friend, I started doing a Boot Camp class at 24 Hr Fitness and have, for the most part, kept a regular schedule of fitness classes (Boot camp, Body Pump, Spinning, NCC, etc) all year long.

March

A series of my photos were selected by Jomar Visions to be on display during the Houston FotoFest.

A friend and I attended a very rainy and fun SXSW Photo Walk in Austin.

April

One of my photos was selected to hang in the Forsyth Gallery at Texas A&M in College Station from 4/21 - 8/19.

September

I took a really fun trip to New Orleans with friends.

November

My friend and awesome photographic artist, Jeff Narron, won Top Houston RAW Photographer in the RAW 2012 Indie Art Awards. Then just a short two days later both Jeff and my friend (and photographer) Katherine Domsky were showcased at Jomar Visions for the 2012 Houston Art Crawl.

A group of friends and I participated in the Houston Color Run.

Whew! Busy year.  Can't wait to see what 2013 brings!
