Family Session | The Philpot Family

Date: 11/29/16 | Location: Eagle Springs - Humble, TX

This session was originally scheduled for the previous day, but the threat of rain and major wind made it necessary to postpone one day. This mother and daughter were so delightful to work with. I truly believe I was able to capture their personality well and I am grateful to have met them both.

Shelter Photo Summary - Week of December 5 2016

League City and Nassau Bay this week. The weather has definitely been a roller coaster. Temps were around 65 when I was at LC on Tuesday, but 45 and windy on Thursday morning at Nassau Bay.  Both shelters have so many beautiful babies up for adoption.

Date: 11/15/16 | Location: Challenger Park - League City

It was a lovely day at the park with this great family. It was a little warm for this time of year, but I believe we got some great shots.

Shelter Photo Summary - Week of November 28 2016

Two shelters this week. League City and Bay Area Pet Adoptions. This was my first time to take photos for BAPA. They have many awesome dogs and cats waiting for their forever homes. Both shelters have so many beautiful babies.

Shelter Photography Resources

I have been asked a few times about tips for taking photos of shelter animals. The main things that I do are below...but I pick up new tips quite often, so the list is ever-growing.

  1. Always have treats
  2. Always have a squeaker
  3. Be ready to make every noise imaginable with your mouth. You will get a lot of laughs from the people around you.
  4. A toy of some kind helps with most dogs
  5. If you feel safe to do so try to get on their level...kneel, sit or even lay on your tummy.
  6. My favorite things to capture are the head-tilt (strange sounds work well) and cat's eyes/and markings.

There are quite a few resources out there that go into much more detail, so I have gathered a list of articles and sites that provide more ideas, different opinions and perspectives of the Shelter Photography space.
